Cultural Black-hole?
No, I haven’t watched any of the 10 TV-Drama shows produced in Kuwait this Ramadan. I’ve completely depended on the popular views and reviews of you all, along with what I heard from friends.
و شوية ترسبات من سخام السنة اللي فاتت
Yet, it’s striking how officials in Kuwait continue to glamorize those who know nothing about Art! And continuously and systematically sabotage any serious artistic initiatives!!!
I don’t mean TV only.
Film,
Music,
Theatre,
Painting,
Poetry…etc
It’s a shame that people like Amer Zuhair get no recognition by the government (worse yet, he gets a pretty stamp on his beautiful movie forbidding him from public shows). On the other hand, a @#*& self-claimed writer like Fajr Al Sa3eed gets a “Thank You Letter” lemu7arabat el fashad!
It’s frustrating that someone like Soliman El Bassam, recognized by the British, as one of the best 10 young directors for theatre (Thank you Bunaz for the info), while Kuwait (again the government) didn't bother to even attend his play! (3atooh ja2eza tashjee3ya 3an el 3ain)!
Oh and don’t get me started on “المجلس الوطني للثقافة والفنون والآداب”…
Who supposedly is responsible for growing cultural awareness in Kuwait and yet, doesn’t have the budget for a decent advertisement in the paper for its activities. (shorouq la tzi3leen)
Why?
What are they so afraid of?
Why is it that they fully adopt the likes of “d3ai el khalifa”, and completely disregard “3anbar waleed” ?
Do they actually have enough brain cells to know that those potential artists will eventually give up or go away?
Do you think they have enough strategic planners to know that such level of cultural sophistication can yield better and smarter Kuwaities?
Am I paranoid? Or is this a systematic methodology to destruct any artistic potential we might have?
